What items can you purchase with a Healthy Benefits Plus card? ›

With Healthy Benefits+, you get an allowance to spend on thousands of lower-priced OTC products, saving you more and making your benefits go further! You can use your benefits to purchase OTC items including allergy medication, cough drops, first aid supplies, oral care, pain relievers, vitamins and more!

Check Your Card Balance

Quickly and easily check the balance on your card without logging into your account! Simply enter your card number and security code, which may be located on either the front or back of your card.

You can only use your card at participating stores — not at convenience stores, restaurants (including fast food), or gas stations.

Your Card is not accepted at Automated Teller Machines (“ATMs”) and cannot be used to obtain cash from an ATM, a point-of-sale terminal (“POS”), or by any other means, except as required by law. Only your Program Sponsor may load additional funds that can be accessed with your Card.

Some items are not available for purchase, including non-food and pet items, alcohol, baby formula, candy, chips, coffee shop items, desserts, fresh baked goods, soda and tobacco.

Many Benefit cards cover groceries such as fruits and vegetables, or other nutritious foods like fish, poultry, meat, and seafood; most dairy products; and soups and salad kits.

Your card will reload each year

Your Healthy Benefits+ card is reloadable each year and is valid until the expiration date or you're no longer a UCare or EssentiaCare member. Be sure to keep your card, as you won't be sent a new one each year.

As long as you are an active member, your OTC Card will automatically reload on the first day of every quarter (January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1). You have the full three months to use your benefit amount. Be aware that any balance remaining at the end of a quarter does not roll over to the next quarter.

The Benefit Card is accepted only at certain merchants. This includes physician offices, hospitals, dental offices, pharmacies (including mail order), hearing/vision care provides, etc.

Can you use a benefits card for anything? ›

You can use your Benefits Card at certain healthcare and non- healthcare merchants or transit merchants specified by your Benefits Plan. A healthcare merchant includes medical providers such as doctors, dentists, vision care facilities, and other locations that sell only medical services/products.

Eligible products include all food items like fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, canned goods, frozen foods, and more.
